THISTLE Antique Art Nouveau 18k Gold French Belle Epoque Rose Cut Diamond Ruby Brooch Pin Pendant Connector Extender 3D Lifelike Floral
ABOUT:
I have a thing for thistles....
And pansies, antique floral jewelry, diamonds with hues, Perpignan garnets... oh drat the list goes on and on. Evidently I have a lot of "things", occupational hazard I guess?
But I find myself often pulling the trigger on the thistles because they remind me of my mom. She has politely asked me to stop buying her thistle and pansy jewelry (because she doesn't wear much jewelry and claims she doesn't need more) so I'm buying them for you while thinking of her - tee hee!
This French antique that I purchased in Paris is so fabulous in its coloring and it has such awesome three-dimensional depth! It's crafted in rich antique 18k gold with three thistle heads. The largest center one is topped in silver for contrast and then has the leaves accented in greenish blue enamel. The bottom of the thistle flower is encrusted with rose cut diamonds and the top "fluffy part" is set with pinkish purple rubies and additional rose cut diamonds for sparkle and color.
(I asked Google what the fluffy part of a thistle is called and learned that it is called the pappus. Botanists unite!).
This is a brooch but could easily be converted to a pendant or due to its size, I could see working with a jeweler to add a chain to the left and right side and have the thistle atop the wrist as a bracelet as well. I will leave the converting up to the customer to decide but it is wearable as is too, many like to attach a chain to each end of the brooch to use it as a connector as well. This is shown in pics, just note that it can teeter some with the pin back out the back.
French hallmarks for 18k gold.
Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
25mm diameter not including the pin post.
Weight - A sturdy 7 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There is loss to the enamel of the leaves. It would have been thicker, shinier, probably greener and just some of the bluish color remains in the recesses extending into a pale green at the tips. I would imagine this could be removed back to gold but it's a pretty pop of color so I'm selling as is. A little wear to the bezels but all stones present. Typical antique diamonds, frosty and irregular rose cuts.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
My disclaimer with all my pieces - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
